World Famous in Hornby

Last Year students from Hornby Primary were selected to star in Air New Zealand's latest in-flight safety video.  Two of  these students are now in 7Mt: Lyan and Mikayla.

This is the video that will be shown on all Air New Zealand flights from now on:

Good job girls . . . next step: Hollywood.

2018 Athletics Sports

The Hornby High School Athletics Sports were held on Friday 2 March. Here are some photos that were taken on the day by Mr Rogers (our Deputy Principal):

It was a great day and everyone who took part had a lot of fun. Our big thanks go to Mr Hilliard who was responsible for organizing this wonderful whole-school event for us.

Class Treaty 2017

At the beginning of Term 1, as part of our "We Are Hornby" kete, we looked at the Hornby High School values of:
                     Commitment
                     Achievement
                     Resilience
                     Respect

As we had just celebrated Waitangi Day, we decided to write our own Class Treaty to describe how we will demonstrate these values. This is the contents of our Treaty, which we all signed:

We also discussed the Treaty of Waitangi and the problems that have occurred over the years because both parties to the Treaty had different interpretations of the documents they signed. The wording was not clear.

This showed us that we need to make our own writing really clear so that when people read what we have written they understand what we are trying to say. We need to write with our readers in mind.

Teachers are soooo tired!

With all the late nights and weekends writing reports and getting things ready for the end of the school year this picture could not be more true:

Earthquakes ... again!

Despite the major earthquakes and subsequent tsunamis that have hit our little country over the past few days, it's business as usual at Hornby High. We are lucky enough to be built on land that used to be an old river bed. The land is not so good if you want to dig any holes (very rocky ground), but really good in an earthquake.
